Book Review: We Belong Together

Synopsis

Eleanor Sharpley has been living a lie…

Needing to escape her London life quickly, Eleanor throws her things into the back of her car, and heads to her erstwhile best friend Charlie’s family farm.

But Charlie isn’t there. Instead she finds Charlie’s grieving brother Daniel, her eight-month old daughter Hope (a daughter Eleanor had known nothing about), and a crumbling and unloved Damson Farm.

Damson Farm lies at the edge of the village of Ferrington, with the river Maddon flowing at its heart. But Ferrington is a village divided by more than just a river – it is split in two by an age-old feud – between the Old Side and the New Side. Eleanor has run from her problems, straight into a family and a world that has problems of its own.

But Damson Farm has magic too, and as winter gives way to spring, the old farm starts to come to life under Eleanor’s love and care. The orchard starts to blossom with daffodils and bluebells, and the sound of bees busy in their hives fills the warming air. Can Eleanor bring Daniel and the feuding village of Ferrington back to life too, or will her secrets catch up with her first?

My Thoughts

As is often the case I started this book without a clue what is was about, I just knew it was meant to be really good. And it was!

Unlike many other rom-com books, this book is also a psychothriller, so basically combining my two favorite genres and it is therefore no surprise that mixed with the great characters this was a five star read for me.

The story is told first person by Eleanor and as long as I like the person telling the story, this kind of writing works really well. I knew Eleanor was hiding something and was ashamed of who she had once been, but I still really liked her. The true Eleanor had a heart of gold!

What to expect when reading this:

✅ rom-com handsome hero, grieving but so lovable

✅ budding romance

✅ cute baby

✅ quirky grandmother and untraditional parents

✅ new friends that show what true friendship is about

✅ mystery stalker giving reader a stomach ache

✅ village feud that needs solving

✅ adventures when trying to start a fresh

✅ proof that living in the fast lane in the city is not always what it seems

I highly recommend this book to rom-com lovers that will get a peak into the darker side of pyschothrillers and to pyschothriller readers that will get a taste of the heart warming effects of a really well written rom-com in a beautiful setting with great characters.
